CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Transportation is inviting high school students across the state to showcase their creativity through the agency’s “Paint the Plow” program.

The initiative gives students the opportunity to design and paint official West Virginia Division of Highways snowplow blades with original artwork that could later be used during winter road operations.

According to WVDOT, completed plow designs will be featured online, where the public will vote for their favorite entries in a statewide competition.

Winning plows will not only be displayed publicly, but will also be placed into active winter service clearing roads within the students’ home districts during snow season.

State officials say the program is intended to promote safe winter driving while providing students with a creative, hands-on way to connect with their communities.

“Your masterpiece could be clearing roads near you next winter,” WVDOT said in announcing the program.
