Several notable developments made headlines across the Ohio Valley on Monday.

Bellaire House Fire Complicated by Water Main Break

Officials in Bellaire say fire hydrants were functioning properly when firefighters first responded to a house fire on First Avenue Sunday. According to Bellaire Village Council President Janet Richardson, the hydrants initially supplied water as expected.

However, during firefighting operations, the village experienced a water main break that caused a loss of pressure in the system, leaving nearby hydrants without water and creating additional challenges for emergency crews battling the blaze.

Ohio Supreme Court Limits School Board Property Tax Appeals

The Ohio Supreme Court has issued a ruling that limits the ability of local school boards to challenge property valuation decisions.

Under the ruling, school districts may no longer appeal decisions made by county boards of revision to common pleas courts unless the school board itself owns the property in question. The decision could significantly impact how property tax disputes are handled across the state.

Steubenville Detective Honored for Drug Task Force Work

Steubenville Police Detective Brandon Kelly has been recognized with one of the first-ever Protecting All Communities Together awards presented by the Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center.

Officials say Kelly’s digital investigative work played a key role in helping the Jefferson County Drug Task Force dismantle a major drug trafficking organization operating in the region. The award recognizes outstanding efforts in combating drug-related crime and protecting communities throughout Ohio.
