BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A former Martins Ferry fire chief appeared in Belmont County court Wednesday in connection with a felony criminal case.

William G. Rinderer was arraigned on a charge of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony. During the hearing, the court addressed legal representation and bond conditions as the case moves forward through the judicial process.

The court reduced Rinderer’s bond from $100,000 to $75,000. If released, he will be prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim or individuals closely associated with the victim.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Friday, when the court is expected to review the case further and reconsider bond conditions if necessary.

The charge remains an allegation, and Rinderer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Additional information is expected to become available as the case proceeds.
