MORRISTOWN, Ohio — Motorists traveling through Belmont County should expect long-term traffic impacts as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) begins a major reconstruction project at the Interstate 70 and State Route 149 (Exit 208) interchange near Morristown.
The multi-year project will include widening I-70 to six lanes through the interchange, replacing existing bridges, and completing a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and overall roadway conditions.
Construction officially enters its first phase on June 22, with crews beginning overnight work to shift both eastbound and westbound traffic into narrower travel lanes. ODOT officials said two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout construction.
The extensive project is expected to continue through the summer of 2029, making it one of the largest highway improvement efforts currently underway in eastern Ohio.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the work zone, watch for changing traffic patterns, and allow additional travel time as construction progresses.
ODOT will provide updates on lane restrictions, traffic changes, and project milestones throughout the duration of the work.
