CALDWELL, Ohio — The Noble County Sheriff’s Office recently welcomed local senior citizens for an educational program focused on recognizing and avoiding common scams.

The presentation covered several types of scams, including:
- Law enforcement and jury duty scams
- Government agency impersonation scams
- Bank and financial institution fraud
- Tech support scams
- Grandparent and emergency scams
- Romance scams
- Lottery and sweepstakes scams
- Medicare and health insurance fraud
- Online marketplace and vehicle purchase scams
McGilton also shared practical tips to help residents identify warning signs of fraud, protect their personal information and know what steps to take if they believe they have been targeted.
Following the educational session, Noble County Sheriff Jason Mackie led attendees on a guided tour of the Noble County Jail.
The program concluded with lunch, provided through a partnership between the Noble County Sheriff’s Office and the Noble County Senior Citizens program.
The sheriff’s office said educational events like these are designed to help residents stay informed and reduce the risk of becoming victims of increasingly sophisticated scams.
