JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — Two juveniles are facing charges after leading police on a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of more than 120 mph before ending in a crash Wednesday afternoon.
According to Cross Creek Township Police Chief Casey Robinson, the chase began shortly after 4 p.m. when an officer on Cadiz Road in Wintersville spotted a vehicle matching the description of one that had fled from police the previous day.
Police said the vehicle was initially traveling 52 mph in a 45 mph zone before the driver accelerated away, leading officers onto State Route 22 at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed near the end of Soulter Road off Bantam Ridge.
Authorities said both occupants were juveniles. The passenger was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was taken into custody at the scene.
The investigation has been turned over to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine the final charges. Police say the driver is expected to face multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding, speeding and reckless operation.
