CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Family members, friends and community supporters gathered over the weekend to honor the memory of a Kanawha County woman who has been missing for two decades.
A prayer vigil was held Saturday at Ken Ellis Memorial Park for Melanie Metheny, who disappeared on July 19, 2006, at the age of 21. The event featured live music, prayer and a message of hope while also raising awareness for missing persons across West Virginia. Metheny’s family said the community continues to remember her, with many residents still recognizing her name and sharing memories of her and her family. Melanie was the mother of three children and is classified as an endangered missing person.
Despite the passage of 20 years, her family says they remain committed to finding answers and continues to encourage anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information about Melanie Metheny’s disappearance is asked to contact the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
