TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio — A motorcycle rider was killed and another driver suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Warren Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. on State Route 212, east of Tabor Ridge Road.
Investigators said 73-year-old James H. Goodmote Jr. of Rootstown was traveling east on a 2012 Harley-Davidson when a westbound 2006 Honda Civic crossed the center line and collided with the motorcycle. The car was driven by 32-year-old Corey Fisher of Dover.
Following the collision, the motorcycle traveled off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail and continued down an embankment. The Honda spun off the opposite side of the road and struck another guardrail.
Goodmote was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing safety equipment.
Fisher was transported by Smith Ambulance to Aultman Hospital with serious injuries. According to the patrol, he was not wearing a seat belt.
Investigators believe impairment may have contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the patrol’s New Philadelphia Post.
