STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Recent building demolitions are creating space for new projects as Steubenville officials work to revitalize the city’s downtown district.
Mayor Ralph Petrella said residents are beginning to see visible results from years of planning. Current developments include a new green space supported by the College of St. Joseph the Worker, recently opened restaurants along Sinclair Avenue and continued efforts to establish a downtown brewery.
Petrella credited former Mayor Jerry Barilla and other city leaders with laying the foundation for several of the projects now moving forward.
City officials hope the investments will encourage additional businesses, housing and public gathering areas throughout downtown Steubenville.
Petrella said future planning will focus on turning more development proposals into active projects. The city’s long-term goal is to create a denser downtown where more people can live, work, dine and attend community events.
Officials believe continued investment in the downtown core could help strengthen surrounding neighborhoods and build additional economic momentum throughout the city.
