WHEELING, W.Va. — A telephone threat referencing Wheeling Park High School prompted a law enforcement response and temporary hold at the school Thursday morning.
According to the Wheeling Police Department, the threat was received around 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 24. Officers responded to the school and began investigating while school officials placed the building on hold as a precaution.
Law enforcement searched the high school and surrounding grounds for any potential threat. Following the search, police determined the threat was unsubstantiated.
Officers cleared the scene, and normal school operations resumed shortly before 11 a.m.
The Wheeling Police Department said its investigation into the source of the telephone threat remains ongoing.
Police also recognized Wheeling Park High School staff and Ohio County Schools for their response during the incident.
