ADENA, Ohio — One person was taken into custody late Thursday following a single-vehicle crash and a search in the area of Blairmont Road outside Adena, according to initial emergency radio traffic.
The incident was first reported around 9:32 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, after a vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole. Initial reports indicated one person had been seen outside the vehicle and walking around following the crash.
By the time emergency crews arrived, the person believed to have been driving the vehicle was no longer at the scene. Radio traffic indicated the individual was believed to have walked toward the Rose Valley area, prompting authorities to search nearby.
The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, and its airbags had deployed. The crash also reportedly snapped a utility pole and damaged a fire hydrant. AEP and the local water provider were contacted.
During the investigation, authorities began checking information connected to the vehicle. Emergency radio traffic later indicated the vehicle was associated with WC Welding Services and had reportedly been taken without permission after keys were left inside. Authorities ran the vehicle identification number and radio traffic indicated it matched the vehicle that had been reported taken.
Authorities continued searching the surrounding area, with a drone requested to assist. A passerby later reported seeing someone near the Rose Valley Road area.
Shortly before 11 p.m., radio traffic indicated a male had returned to a business on Lamborn Road before running into a wooded area when another person arrived.
At approximately 11:13 p.m., emergency radio traffic indicated one male had been taken into custody.
No information was immediately available regarding possible charges or injuries. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle being taken and the crash remain subject to official confirmation.
