Trailer Fire Temporarily Shuts Down I-470 East Near Bethlehem

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — Emergency crews responded to a trailer fire along Interstate 470 East near Bethlehem late Thursday night, October 8, temporarily shutting down the interstate as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and clear the roadway.

The incident was first reported around 11:37 p.m., involving a 28-foot box trailer with fire visible near its rear.

According to emergency radio traffic, responding firefighters located flames in the trailer’s brake area. The trailer was reportedly empty at the time of the incident.

Crews worked to contain the fire, using water and a foam line during firefighting operations. Additional water was needed as firefighters continued their efforts.

Shortly after midnight, authorities temporarily shut down I-470 while crews cleaned foam from the roadway.

The fire was reported extinguished by approximately 12:12 a.m. Friday, October 9, and one lane reopened around 12:19 a.m.

Firefighters cleared the scene by approximately 12:23 a.m., while law enforcement remained in the area awaiting a tow truck to remove the trailer.

An investigator was reportedly notified during the response. The cause of the fire has not been officially confirmed, and no injuries were mentioned in the initial reports.

The incident caused a temporary traffic disruption along I-470 East before crews began reopening the roadway.
