HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio — The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is asking for community support after a weekend fire destroyed the home of one of its deputies, leaving his family with nothing.
Officials say Deputy Mark Clark and his family lost all of their belongings when flames tore through their Jefferson County home along Meadow Drive in the Richmond area, just off Route 43 on Sunday. Fire crews arriving on scene reported heavy fire conditions throughout the residence.
Six local fire departments responded to battle the blaze. Firefighters were able to rescue one of the family’s four dogs, but the remaining animals did not survive. No people were injured, but the home is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The sheriff’s office is now collecting donations to help the family recover. The household includes three adults and two boys, ages 8 and 11. Officials say the most urgent needs include hygiene items, underwear, socks, and basic necessities.
Clothing sizes provided by the department include:
- Adult female: large shirts, large pants, size 9 shoes
- Adult males: large shirts
- 8-year-old boy: size 8 clothing, size 2 boys shoes
- 11-year-old boy: men’s XL clothing, size 11 men’s shoes
The department says it is working to obtain additional clothing sizes and information on the boys’ Christmas needs.
Donations can be dropped off at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
