Belmont County DJFS Director says SNAP, food stamps, may be delayed in Ohio & nationwide in November

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – People who receive SNAP/food stamps assistance in Ohio and across the nation may see the food subsidy benefit delayed due to the federal government shutdown, according to Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services Director Jeff Felton.

Felton says Ohio and other states including West Virginia received guidance from federal officials about the possible delay.

“The most recent guidance states have received is not to send files to the vendor that loads the snap benefits for november. so, yes, the benefits will be delayed unless they resolve the shutdown.”

Felton said this is sad news for people who reply on food assistance, especially during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Felton said the Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services posted a list of area food pantries and places where people can access free food.

If the politicians resolve the federal shutdown, Felton said it could still take up to a week for SNAP benefits to be issued.
