Local man lands in jail following alleged weekend fleeing incident

WHEELING, W.Va. –  Wheeling Police officers arrested a local man who now faces several charges after a fleeing incident over the weekend.

Around 7:37 p.m., Sunday, officers initiated a traffic stop around South York and Zane Streets on Wheeling Island.

When the officer approached the car, they smelled an odor of narcotics. Police then searched the vehicle as well as the driver and passenger. The passenger allegedly began acting suspiciously and allegedly fled on foot from officers when being searched.

During the foot chase, the passenger allegedly resisted arrest and struck the officer several times during the altercation.

Once in custody, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Treyvon Markelle Montgomery of Wheeling, reportedly had several grams of fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana and an unknown substance on him.

Montgomery is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, battery on an officer and fleeing.

At the time of his arrest, Montgomery was out on bond from a prior unrelated incident. He was taken to the Northern Regional Jail by WPD where he currently resides.
