BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Many Belmont County residents are turning to social media to complain about increases in their property taxes.
River News Network spoke with officials from the Belmont County Auditor’s office about the rate increase and what you can do about it.
Why did my property taxes go up?
The Ohio Department of Taxation mandated the 2024 revaluation of properties in Belmont County under ORC 5713.01 (B), according to Jacob DeBertrand, Belmont County Chief Deputy Auditor.
DeBertrand says the average increase in property value in Belmont County for 2024’s reappraisal was 19.8% and changes like new construction could effect values.
The average increase in property value in Belmont County during the 2024 reappraisal was 19.8%. On average each home saw an increase of $12,360 in value. Some taxpayers have a higher increase due to new construction and other adjustments based on information corrections received from data mailers sent to the taxpayers.

Can I challenge my property value?
Belmont County Auditor Cindi Henry says you absolutely can challenge your property value. But you must file your complaint by March 31.
Taxpayers can contest their 2024 property values through the Belmont County Board of Revision by filing a Complaint Against the Valuation of Real Property (DTE 1) form in the Auditor’s Office from January 1, 2025, through March 31, 2025. The forms can be found on the Auditor’s Website or in the Auditor’s Office located in the Belmont County Courthouse at 101 W Main Street St. Clairsville, Ohio.
