BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Belmont County commissioners approved roadwork funds for the county’s part of the Morristown interchange project at their most recent meeting.
Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is developing plans for an interchange improvement project at the I-70/State Route 149 interchange in the busy Morristown area.
ODOT tackles Belmont County traffic woes with new I-70 interchange
The work will reconstruct the Interstate 70 and State Route 149 interchange as follows:
- Pavement widening and resurfacing of portions of I-70 ramps, State Route 49 and TR 1528 (Reco Road)
- Bridges on I-70 over State Route 149 will be removed and replaced with longer structures to accommodate the widening of State Route 149 beneath
- Relocation of portions of Love’s, Pilot & Marathon drives
- Construction of new storm sewers, curbs, sidewalks, traffic signals with pedestrian facilities, highway lighting, utility relocation and all necessary traffic control devices and appurtenances needed to complete the project
Commissioners estimate the project cost at $355,190 which will be paid out of capital improvement funds.
Commissioners also authorized Commissioner Vince Gianangeli to submit the 2025 State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) grant application on behalf of the Belmont County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The LEPC’s budget request is $112,500 and they propose to use grant funds to train responders, perform community outreach and purchase equipment.
The commissioners also approved various county employees including the director of Belmont County Department of Job & Family Services and the director of Senior Services of Belmont County to travel for work-related issues within the state of Ohio.
