Monroe Central Seminoles make basketball history with state championship victory

MONROE COUNTY, Ohio – For the first time in 82 years, an Ohio Valley boys’ basketball team has captured a state championship title, etching their names into history. The Monroe Central Seminoles emerged victorious in the OHSAA Division VI state title game, defeating Marion Local 43-35 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Dayton Arena.

The championship win marks an historic moment for Ohio Valley sports, which had not seen a boys’ basketball team claim a state title since 1943. The Seminoles’ hard-fought victory was witnessed by an electrified crowd of more than 7,000 fans.

Players, coaches, and fans erupted in celebration as the final buzzer sounded, marking a defining moment in the Monroe Central athletic program’s history.
