WHEELING, W.Va. – A routine traffic stop on Wheeling Island turned into a brief foot chase Friday evening, leading to the arrest of a Martins Ferry man on multiple drug charges.
According to Wheeling Police, officers initiated a traffic stop around 5:40 p.m. on South Wabash Street. As the vehicle came to a stop, the passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Daquain Bass, exited the car and allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers pursued Bass and quickly apprehended him.
Upon searching Bass, police discovered a variety of suspected illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and marijuana. As a result, Bass was charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver.
Authorities also revealed that Bass had two outstanding warrants for fleeing in connection with previous incidents. Additionally, he was wanted as a fugitive on two felony charges from Belmont County, Ohio.
Following his arrest, Bass was transported to the Northern Regional Jail, where his bond was set at $151,000, cash only.
