Local sobriety checkpoint scheduled for Friday night

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police will set up a sobriety checkpoint on the evening of Friday, April 11, 2025, targeting impaired driving along a heavily traveled stretch of Route 2.

The checkpoint will be located on the northbound side of Route 2 near John Marshall High School and will operate from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. During these hours, troopers will also be conducting additional patrols throughout both Marshall and Ohio counties in an effort to identify and deter driving under the influence.

At the checkpoint, drivers can expect to be stopped briefly by officers, who will request a driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Troopers will also observe for signs of impairment, such as the odor of alcohol, slurred speech, or glazed eyes.

If an officer suspects a driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, further testing may be conducted, including field sobriety tests or a breathalyzer. In some cases, if there is reasonable cause, officers may perform a search of the vehicle.

The checkpoint is part of law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities linked to impaired driving. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, use designated drivers, or arrange alternate transportation if they plan to consume alcohol.
