WHEELING, W.Va. — A former employee of the Highlands Sports Complex is facing criminal charges after prosecutors allege she diverted tens of thousands of dollars in customer payments into her personal account.

Kelly Michelle Clutter, 46, of Wheeling, has been charged with one count of fraudulent schemes, according to a criminal complaint filed in Ohio County Magistrate Court. Investigators believe Clutter, who is the former Food and Beverage Hospitality Manager at the business until her termination from that job in June 2024, took more than $14,000 in credit card payments intended for birthday party bookings and deposited the funds into a personal account.

In total, she is accused of attempting to steal close to $30,000 from customers who rented space at the popular recreation facility.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the case after receiving a report on June 10, 2024, from a corporal who had responded to allegations of financial misconduct at the complex. The criminal complaint details the transactions in question and outlines how Clutter allegedly attempted to misappropriate the funds.

Clutter made her initial court appearance on May 20 and was released after posting a $30,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear again for a preliminary hearing on June 6 before Ohio County Magistrate Tom Howard.
