WHEELING, W.Va. — WVU Medicine officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday on a $16 million project to transform the former Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center into a pediatric health facility.
The Robert Sonneborn Family WVU Medicine Children’s Outpatient Center will house a range of services under one 17,000-square-foot roof, from routine checkups to specialist visits. Plans include separate entrances for sick and well children, on-site imaging and laboratory services, and after-hours care for working parents.
The project, funded through a combination of hospital resources and community donations, will involve about a year of interior construction and repurposing.
The center is expected to open by November 2026.
