TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio – Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orville Campbell provided more details at a Monday press conference on the unusual tragedy of an Amish family at Atwood Lake this past weekend that ended in the deaths of a father and his son.

The sheriff said the wife and mother of the family told authorities that God was speaking to
them and telling them to do things. Marcus Miller, a 45-year-old husband and father from Holmes County, apparently went swimming on his own as a test of his faith and drowned.

His wife apparently drove a golf cart through the campground with four year-old Vincent Miller then at some point tossed him into the lake, saying she had to sacrifice him.

The woman remains hospitalized with mental health concerns. Prosecutors may charge
her Tuesday for aggravated murder in the death of her young son.
