WEIRTON, W.Va. – The Weirton Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, August 30, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce West Virginia’s impaired driving laws and promote roadway safety.
The checkpoint will be held on Penco Road in coordination with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Commission on Drunk Driving Prevention. Officers will be on site from approximately 7 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday.
Police officials said the checkpoint is intended to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities related to alcohol and drug use.
Motorists are reminded to plan ahead, use a designated driver, or arrange alternate transportation if they plan to consume alcohol.
