OHIO COUNTT, W.Va. — The Highlands Sports Complex proudly hosted “Stronger Together: Highlands 5-Year Celebration” on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The milestone event celebrated five years of growth, memories, and community service while rallying support for families affected by the recent flooding in Ohio County. Proceeds benefited the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley’s Disaster Recovery Fund.
The day brought together residents, athletes, families, and local businesses for activities reflecting the spirit of unity and resilience, including:
- A free kids’ clinic and climbing wall
- First responders’ recognition
- Pickleball tournament fundraiser
- Community fair with local vendors
- A free roller derby match
“Reaching this five-year milestone at the Highlands Sports Complex is about more than looking back—it’s about recognizing the spirit and unity of Ohio County,” said Zach Abraham, Commission President of Ohio County. “We remember the victims of the June 14 flood and honor the survivors who carry on with strength. We also share our appreciation to the first responders and volunteers whose courage and compassion lifted us in our darkest hours. Time and again, our community has shown that when challenges come, we rise together. That’s what makes Ohio County, West Virginia so special.”
The Highlands Sports Complex will continue its partnership with Ohio County and welcomes the community to enjoy its arcade room, play climb area, and sports programs, including basketball, volleyball, NFL flag football, and indoor winter baseball.
