I-70 in Belmont County partially closed due to accidents

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – Interstate 70 in Belmont County was partially closed with only one lane open in the St. Clairsville area late Thursday afternoon, Sept. 4.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol told River News this was due to two separate accidents at exits 209 and 216 which caused the closure of one lane on I-70 westbound. Traffic was backed up on Route 40 westbound from the Ohio Valley Mall area into downtown St. Clairsville as motorists took a detour off the highway.

Officials say tow trucks were on the scene to clear the area on I-70. There was no word of any injuries available as of late Thursday evening.
