KANAWHA COUNTY — A Kanawha Circuit Court judge has ruled that St. Joseph the Worker College, located in Steubenville, Ohio, may move forward with securing a $5 million grant from the West Virginia Water Development Authority to expand its skilled trades programs into Weirton, West Virginia.
The decision comes after the court dismissed a lawsuit that had challenged the funding. In the ruling, the judge specified that the college must use the grant for non-religious purposes and ensure that the programs funded by the grant remain accessible to the public.
The grant will support the college’s plans to broaden its skilled trades offerings, which officials say will help meet workforce needs in the Northern Panhandle region.
