STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — The Urban Mission in Steubenville announced it will close its emergency shelter at the end of October, citing significant budget challenges.
State-level budget cuts contributed to the organization facing a potential $600,000 deficit over the next two years, forcing difficult decisions regarding operations. As part of the closure, the Mission will lay off ten employees.
Officials with The Urban Mission expressed regret over the impact on both staff and the community, emphasizing that the decision was made after exploring all other options. The organization plans to continue its other programs and services but will no longer provide emergency shelter support.
