A Moundsville man has been charged with kidnapping following a child abduction incident at the Moundsville Walmart on Tuesday, the West Virginia State Police announced on Wednesday afternoon.

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. – The Moundsville Walmart was temporarily shut down Tuesday evening around 5:25 p.m. as local, state, and federal law enforcement responded to a reported child abduction.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, an 11-year-old girl had sent a message to her family claiming she had been taken by an adult male from her home and brought to another state.

Officers located the child inside the Walmart store along with an adult woman. Further investigation led authorities to the residence of an adult male, who was taken into custody for questioning.

The Sheriff’s Office said no additional information will be released at this time as the investigation continues.
