MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU Medicine has announced a merger with Pennsylvania-based Independence Health Systems, a move that will bring five additional hospitals under the WVU Medicine banner by next October.
As part of the agreement, WVU Medicine has committed to investing $800 million into the newly acquired hospitals over the next five years. The funding is expected to support facility upgrades, advanced medical equipment, and expanded patient services.
Officials from both organizations say the merger will strengthen healthcare access and enhance services across the region, while aligning the hospitals under WVU Medicine’s integrated care system.
Representatives emphasized that patients and staff at the five hospitals will benefit from improved resources, technology, and collaboration across the expanded network.
WVU Medicine has not yet announced which specific hospitals will be part of the merger, but officials confirmed the integration process will be completed by October 2026.
