Weirton City Council to Consider New Health Insurance Proposal

0

WEIRTON, W.Va. — City Council is scheduled to consider a proposal from Highmark to provide health insurance coverage for city employees during its regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

If approved, the plan would replace the city’s current provider beginning next year. Under the proposal, premium costs are projected to increase by approximately 18 percent, reflecting continued rises in health care expenses affecting municipalities across the region and the nation.

City officials have not yet released specific details on potential changes to coverage levels or employee contributions, but council members are expected to review options and discuss the impact on both the city budget and the municipal workforce.

Tonight’s meeting will take place at the Weirton Municipal Building and is open to the public. Additional discussion and possible action on the proposal may follow council’s review.
