EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — Columbiana County has foreclosed on a longtime East Liverpool restaurant due to unpaid property taxes, though the business owner says steps are being taken to resolve the issue.
The Hot Dog Shoppe, a fixture in the city since 1946, owes the county more than $33,000 in back taxes. County records show the foreclosure action was initiated after the taxes went unpaid.
According to the owner, the restaurant’s real estate investment trust landlord failed to forward the tax bills, leading to the delinquency. The owner says a repayment plan has since been arranged with Columbiana County to address the outstanding balance.
County officials say foreclosure proceedings are standard when taxes remain unpaid, but repayment agreements can allow property owners to remain in compliance moving forward.
