WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling city planners have unveiled a design for a new tower that will prominently display the preserved OVGH letters from the former Ohio Valley Medical Center. The hospital closed in 2019 and was demolished beginning in 2023 to make way for a new regional cancer center and related redevelopment on the site

The tower will be located in a new city park and is intended to serve as both a visual landmark and a tribute to the hospital’s long-standing role in the community. The large OVGH letters were carefully removed from the building and stored by the City of Wheeling to ensure they were preserved rather than discarded.

City officials say the letters received ongoing care while in storage, and restoration work has been carried out with the help of students from Wheeling Park High School’s machine tool technology program.

Additional details on construction timelines and the park’s overall design are expected to be released as the project moves forward.
