Ohio Valley Electricity Prices Could Spike as Electric Firm Faces Power Shortfall, Risking Weather-Related Outages

OHIO VALLEY – Electricity bills across the region could rise again after PJM Interconnection failed to secure enough power to meet projected demand for the 2027 and 2028 planning years.

PJM says its capacity auction hit the maximum price of about $330 per megawatt-day but still came up roughly five percent short. The grid operator warns the shortfall could increase the risk of power interruptions during periods of extreme weather.
