WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Police Department is investigating the death of a person after a body was found near the shoreline of the Ohio River on Monday morning.
Around 8:20 a.m., officers from the Bellaire Police, Bridgeport Police, and the Wheeling Police Department responded to a report of a deceased body in the water close to the Interstate 470 Bridge on the Bellaire, Ohio side of the river.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a deceased individual. The body was recovered with the assistance of the Wheeling Fire Department.
The body has not been identified and will be taken to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for identification. The process could take several days or weeks. Wheeling police detectives will work with the medical examiner’s office to determine the manner and cause of death.
