MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — All employees at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) facility in Morgantown have been reinstated.
NIOSH operates programs that monitor and research coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (black lung disease).
The reinstatements come after workers at the site received termination notices during the early weeks of the Trump Administration. Those notices had raised concerns about the future of the Morgantown facility and its role in worker safety and health research.
NIOSH is the federal institute responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
NIOSH officials have not released additional details on the reinstatement process, but employees have since returned to their positions. The Morgantown site is a key research hub focused on occupational safety, including mining and industrial health.
