West Virginia Route 2 Extension Project Near New Cumberland Expected to Move Forward

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — The multimillion-dollar West Virginia Route 2 extension project in New Cumberland could receive final approval as early as next month, according to officials with the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The project was first advertised for bids in October 2024 but was rejected due to cost differences from the engineer’s estimate. The project was rebid in May 2025 and awarded to Triton Construction for approximately $11.9 million.

Officials say early mobilization has begun, with construction expected to start within the next few weeks, weather permitting.

Once completed, the project will realign the roadway to eliminate sharp curves at Station Hill and remove two railroad crossings, improving safety and traffic flow. The project has faced delays due to permitting requirements, bid revisions, and planning updates.
