WV Senate Approves $8 Million Supplemental for Hancock County Schools

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In its first Saturday floor session of the 2026 legislative session, the West Virginia Senate approved an $8 million supplemental appropriation for Hancock County Schools.

Some senators had raised concerns that the county might not be required to repay the funds. State Senator Ryan Weld offered an amendment, which was subsequently approved, renaming the budget line item the Hancock County Board of Education Financial Stability Loan Program.

The appropriation aims to support the county’s school system while providing oversight on the use of the funds.
