HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio — A major highway expansion project is coming to U.S. 22 in Harrison County, with the Ohio Department of Transportation planning to add lanes in both directions between Cadiz and Hopedale beginning in fall 2027.
The $51 million project will widen the corridor from two lanes to four, with one additional lane added for eastbound and westbound traffic. The state has secured a portion of the funding through ODOT’s TRAC program, which covered design costs, but additional funding is still needed before construction can begin.
Safety concerns have kept the project a priority for ODOT for several years. Crash data from 2012 to 2023 shows the corridor recorded more than 100 crashes over that 10-year span, including some fatalities.
The project remains in its preliminary engineering phase, and no completion date has been set. Information on proposed detours will be posted to ODOT’s website at a later date.
