WHEELING, W.Va. — A block of buildings that has sat empty for more than 50 years on Market Street in Wheeling is moving closer to redevelopment after officials confirmed that funding discussions and bid acceptance are on track.
Tipping Point Development will manage the $8.5 million project and redevelop about 18,000 square feet at 1400 Market St. into a mixed-use space featuring upper-floor housing and a street-level commercial area that will include a juice bar from Pittsburgh and a public business hub with indoor and outdoor seating.
The age of the structures, built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, has presented construction challenges. Workers will need to install interior scaffolding and replace structural beams to bring the buildings up to modern code.
Construction is expected to take 14 to 18 months, with a grand opening planned for summer 2027.
