Ohio Man Says Dream Led to Major Meteorite Find

0

A Cleveland-area contractor says a vivid dream led him to one of the largest meteorite fragments discovered in Medina County to date.

The Middleburg Heights man reported that he had a strong sense of where to search after the dream, prompting him to visit a specific area where he ultimately uncovered the sizable fragment. The meteorite exploded over Medina County on St. Patrick’s Day and Jeff Makkos, a contractor, felt and heard the explosion and decided to search for fragments of the space rock.

According to the Makkos, the discovery came after he followed the location he saw in his sleep, describing the moment as both surprising and validating. He said he immediately recognized the object as unusual due to its weight and distinct appearance.

Meteorite fragments have been reported in the region in recent weeks, drawing interest from collectors and researchers alike. Experts say confirmed meteorites can be identified by characteristics such as a dark outer crust and magnetic properties.

The contractor’s find is believed to be among the largest recovered locally so far, adding to a growing number of discoveries tied to the recent meteor activity over Northeast Ohio.

Officials and experts continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have found a meteorite to have it evaluated for confirmation.
