Two Tornadoes Confirmed in Ohio During Last Week’s Storms

0

The National Weather Service has confirmed at least two tornadoes touched down in Ohio during severe storms that moved through the state Thursday.

One tornado was confirmed near Fredericktown in Knox County. Survey crews determined the brief twister caused minor damage, including tearing part of a metal roof from a barn before quickly dissipating.

Another tornado was confirmed near Kenton in Hardin County and was rated an EF-1, with estimated winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour. The storm produced damage to trees and some structures in the area.

The tornadoes were part of a larger storm system that brought strong winds, heavy rain and hail across much of Ohio Thursday evening. The system developed along a cold front, allowing storms to quickly intensify in unstable atmospheric conditions.

Looking ahead, additional unsettled weather is expected across Ohio this week. Forecasts call for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for some storms to become strong to severe. The primary threats include gusty winds, hail and locally heavy rainfall, along with cooler temperatures moving in behind the system later in the week.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware as conditions can change rapidly during the spring storm season.
