WV 2 Road Replacement Project Underway in New Cumberland

HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. — Construction is underway on a long-awaited road replacement project along WV Route 2 through New Cumberland, more than a decade after planning first began.

The $11.8 million project, being performed by Triton Construction, will widen Station Hill and eliminate the existing “S” bend — a stretch of road featuring two 90-degree turns over railroad tracks that has long posed safety and traffic concerns.

Officials say the narrow roadway has made it difficult for vehicles, particularly large trucks, to pass safely. The project is expected to span two construction seasons to complete.

Once the main work is finished, additional improvements in the area may follow, including addressing slope failures further north that have been a concern for local residents.
