WHEELING, W.Va. — Ohio County Schools has announced the launch of a new Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathway at Wheeling Park High School, marking the first program of its kind in West Virginia.

The new program, Building Automation Systems, will begin this fall and is designed to introduce students to the advanced technology used to operate and maintain modern buildings.

According to the release from Ohio County Schools, students enrolled in the program will gain hands-on experience working with systems such as heating and cooling (HVAC), energy management, security systems, smart controls, and building automation technology used in schools, hospitals, and commercial facilities.

School officials say the program is ideal for students interested in technology, engineering, electronics, problem-solving, and skilled trades, offering a direct pathway into a rapidly growing industry.

The district also highlighted the importance of local partnerships and continued education opportunities, allowing students to further their training after graduation while preparing for careers with strong job demand and competitive starting salaries.

“This program represents the future of building technology,” the release states, emphasizing the role smart systems play in improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability in modern infrastructure.

Ohio County Schools says the new pathway positions students in the Ohio Valley to take advantage of emerging career opportunities while gaining real-world, hands-on skills during their high school education.
