WHEELING, W.Va. — A courageous young softball player received an outpouring of support Friday evening as she took center stage during the 2026 Mountaineer Girls Softball Association Championship Game.

Rylin Davis, who has spent nearly a year battling Stage 4 neuroblastoma, threw the ceremonial first pitch before the championship matchup, drawing cheers from players, families, and community members in attendance.

Rylin was declared cancer-free in May, but her family recently learned that the cancer had returned, renewing her fight against the disease.

Throughout the week, the Mountaineer Girls Softball Association organized fundraising efforts to help support Rylin and her family as they face the financial challenges associated with ongoing treatment.

A member of the Foxtail softball team, Rylin stepped onto the field and delivered her ceremonial pitch straight down the middle, earning applause from the crowd.

Family members said the support shown by the community has been overwhelming and serves as a reminder of how many people are standing behind Rylin during her journey.

League officials said supporting local families during difficult times is an important part of what youth sports organizations strive to do beyond the playing field.

Community members wishing to follow Rylin’s journey or learn more about ways to support her family can do so through her online fundraising and social media efforts.

The evening served as both a celebration of resilience and a powerful show of community support for a young athlete continuing to fight with determination and courage.
