Leaking Fire Hydrant Raises Concerns About Aging Infrastructure in Steubenville

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — A leaking fire hydrant on Cherry Lane has drawn attention from residents and sparked discussion about the condition of Steubenville’s aging infrastructure.

City officials say issues involving water lines and fire hydrants are not uncommon due to the age of many utility systems throughout the community.

According to Steubenville Fire Chief Joe Ribar, infrastructure-related maintenance calls are a regular part of city operations, and the water department responds when repairs are needed.

The hydrant has been leaking for several days, prompting questions from nearby residents about when the issue would be addressed.

Water Superintendent Jim Jenkins said city crews are scheduled to repair the hydrant on June 11.

Officials say the repair is part of ongoing efforts to maintain critical infrastructure while the city continues broader revitalization and improvement projects.
