BELLE, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man has been arrested after authorities say he robbed a bank in Belle on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Brisson is accused of robbing the Whitesville State Bank shortly before 4 p.m.
Investigators say Brisson approached a teller and handed over a note demanding money. During the encounter, he allegedly made movements toward his pockets that suggested he may have been armed, though authorities have not indicated that a weapon was displayed.
The teller complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, according to deputies.
After leaving the bank, the suspect reportedly fled on foot toward the nearby river area. A search was launched, with Deputy B.L. Shamblin and K-9 Bingo tracking the suspect’s path.
During the investigation, deputies recovered several items believed to be connected to the robbery, including dark-colored clothing, a hat, glasses and a wig. Authorities believe the items were used as part of a disguise.
Brisson was later taken into custody and is facing charges related to the robbery.
The investigation remains ongoing.
