WHEELING, W.Va. — Drivers across Northern West Virginia are seeing some relief at the pump as gasoline prices continue to trend downward heading into the busy summer travel season.
According to AAA East Central’s latest Gas Price Report, the average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline in Northern West Virginia fell 25 cents over the past week to $3.827.
The decline mirrors a nationwide trend, with the national average for regular gasoline decreasing for the third consecutive week. Lower crude oil prices have played a significant role in easing costs for motorists.
Since late May, the national average price for gasoline has dropped by roughly 50 cents per gallon, providing some welcome savings for travelers preparing for summer vacations and holiday trips.
Oil prices were around $80 per barrel Monday following reports of an agreement between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for petroleum products.
While gas prices remain elevated compared to historical averages, current costs remain below the record highs reached in June 2022.
New data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows gasoline demand increased slightly last week, while domestic fuel supplies also rose. Gasoline production averaged 9.7 million barrels per day during the reporting period.
Among area communities, Martinsburg reported the lowest average price at $3.468 per gallon, while Weirton recorded the highest at $4.192.
