YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison for his role in a fatal shooting outside a Youngstown bar in December 2023.

Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney sentenced Jonthony Altreche after he pleaded guilty in April to charges including involuntary manslaughter, improper discharge of a firearm at or into a liquor permit premises, failure to comply with a police officer’s signal, possession of cocaine and felonious assault.

The sentence follows the Dec. 10, 2023, shooting death of 26-year-old Ty’Rice Logan, who was killed outside a bar on South Avenue.

The hearing became emotional as Logan’s family addressed the court. His father, William Logan, expressed frustration with the sentence, telling the court that “30 years ain’t justice.” At one point, deputies escorted several individuals from the courtroom following a verbal confrontation between members of the victim’s and defendant’s families.

Logan’s mother, Pauneese Lewis, said she remains heartbroken by the loss of her son.

Before sentencing, Altreche apologized to the court and the victim’s family.

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving a woman. Prosecutors said Logan was shot multiple times while outside the bar. Authorities later issued a murder warrant for Altreche, who was arrested in February 2024 following a police pursuit after several weeks on the run.

The felonious assault charge was related to other individuals who were near Logan when the shooting occurred.

Under the sentence imposed by the court, Altreche will serve a minimum of 30 years in prison.
