Free Water Aerobics Program Returns for People of All Abilities in Belmont County

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A collaborative program in Belmont County is once again giving residents of all abilities the opportunity to stay active, build confidence and make new friends through free water aerobics classes.

The program is offered through a partnership between Ohio State University Extension and the Belmont County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Classes are held in the board’s indoor pool and are led by an OSU Extension family and consumer sciences educator.

Designed for adults of all fitness levels and abilities, the classes feature low-impact exercises set to music in a supportive and social environment.

Program organizers say participants have ranged in age from 30 to 79 years old, demonstrating that the program is accessible to a wide variety of individuals.

“The class is for everyone, regardless of ability or fitness level,” organizers said. “It’s a chance to get moving, build confidence, enjoy time with others and improve overall wellness.”

Each session runs for six weeks, with one-hour classes held twice each week.

The next session begins July 13, and registration will remain open through July 7.

Participants do not need to know how to swim to take part in the program.
